OUR STORY
How it All Started
ASIC was born out of necessity. A group of snow and ice management business owners came together, concerned by skyrocketing insurance premiums, increasingly unfavorable policy terms, and a shrinking pool of insurers willing to cover the industry. Determined to find long-term solutions, they connected with a seasoned team of claims and litigation professionals—and discovered an intriguing comparison. While also a high-risk sector, the Elevator Industry achieved significantly greater success in liability management and claims defense. Why? Because it had invested in robust policies, industry standards, training programs, and risk management procedures over decades. In contrast, the snow and ice industry lacked this kind of structured development. This realization inspired the formation of ASIC.
From the beginning, ASIC set out to raise the bar—creating a more organized, proactive, and accountable industry. The association built a system that includes weekly response team meetings, dedicated subgroups, and a formal process for drafting and refining industry resources. To amplify its impact, ASIC launched initiatives like the Train the Trainer program, designed to empower leaders and spread best practices across the field. Through strategic partnerships, education, and standards development, ASIC members are leading the transformation of snow and ice management for the better—now and into the future.
